Missouri's Chase Daniel and Lauren Grice have been named the Varsity M/Lathrop & Gage Student-Athletes of the Week for Oct. 2-9, 2006.
Daniel is a sophomore quarterback for the 23rd-ranked Tiger football team and has helped lead the squad to its first 5-0 start since 1981. He has completed 63.8 percent of his passes while throwing for 1,273 yards and 13 touchdowns. The Southlake, Texas product also ranks 10th nationally in total offense, averaging 280.6 yards per game. He is a business major with a 3.26 grade-point average who has spent time visiting children at University Hospital.
A local product who prepped at Columbia's Hickman HS, Grice has appeared in all 12 games this season, with three starts and a combined 631 minutes for the MU soccer team. One of four seniors, she is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first team selection and a CoSIDA Academic All-District VII second team honoree. Grice has posted a 3.87 gpa in nutrition and fitness while serving as a SAAC representative and with Truman's Kids Club.
The Missouri football team (5-0, 1-0 Big 12) travels to Lubbock, Texas to face Texas Tech on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. The Mizzou soccer team (8-4, 0-3 Big 12) is also on the road this weekend, as they take on Oklahoma on Friday at 7 p.m. and Oklahoma State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
