COLUMBIA, Mo.--The NCAA Championships are a week away and the awards are starting to pour in for Missouri Track & Field. Tiger decathlete Hans Uldal was named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches (USTFCCCA) Midwest Region Athlete of the Year and three Tigers were named to CoSIDA's Academic All-District team.
Uldal, USTFCCCA's Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year
Senior Hans Uldal won the region award for his efforts this season in the men's decathlon. In April at the Audrey Walton Combined Events, Uldal scored 8,014 points, which ranks second in the NCAA this season. Only 20 athletes in the World scored 8,000 or more points in 2005.
Uldal, 2005 Big 12 Champion, quailed for his fourth NCAA Outdoor Championships in which he will participate in next Wednesday and Thursday, June 7 and 8, in Sacramento, Calif. Last year, the four-time All-American, placed third in the decathlon event at the national meet.
In 2004, Uldal participated in the Olympic Games as part of the Norwegian National Team.
Three Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team
Three Tigers, Amanda Bales, Serena Ramsey, and Neville Miller, earned spots on CoSIDA's Academic All-District First Team as announced yesterday.
Sports information directors from around the country vote on the CoSIDA Academic All-America awards, and by virtue of landing on the All-District first team, the three Tigers are eligible for the national award.
Bales has earned the honor three times in her career, Ramsey has landed on the list twice, and Miller earns his first career All-District honor.
