Women's Golf Qualifies for Fourth-Consecutive NCAA Regional

May 1, 2006

The Missouri Women's Golf Team has been qualified for the NCAA Central Regional, as announced by the NCAA Women's Golf Committee on Monday. Central Regional play will take place May 11-13 at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas. This will be Mizzou's fourth-straight trip to NCAA Regional play and the eighth in the last nine years.

The Tigers will be the 12th seed in the 21-team field at the Central Regional. Duke is the top seed.

"We are obviously excited and looking forward to Regionals," Head Coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "We are heading back to the course at Texas A&M, which is a challenging course, but one we played in March and got better at each round. I think that will give us some extra confidence and knowledge heading into the tournament. But we're going to have to put together three good rounds."

Three regional tournaments will be conducted May 11-13 to determine the championships field. A total of 324 participants have been selected for the regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championships finals. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each region. The championships finals will be held May 23-26 at the Scarlet Course, Columbus, Ohio, hosted by Ohio State University.

Last year the Tigers finished third at the NCAA Central Regional and made their first appearance in the NCAA Championships.

"We've been there before and I think making it out of Regionals last year will help us," Preismeyer said. "It's always hard to get that first one, but now we know what to expect and won't be as nervous going in."

Missouri is one of six Big 12 teams in the Central Regional including Texas A&M, who will host the Regional.

Live scoring of play at the Central Regional will be available on mutigers.com through golfstat.com.
