Dallas, Texas - University of Missouri sophomore guard Jason Horton was named a Second Team Academic All-Big 12 selection the Conference office announced on Wednesday.
A starter in 17-of-25 games for the Tigers, Horton earned the award after posting a grade-point-average above a 3.0, while participating in 60 percent of Mizzou's contests. A total of 14 student-athletes were named First Team Academic All-Big 12 picks (3.2 GPA and above), while seven others were named to the Second Team after posting a GPA between a 3.0 and 3.19.
A native of Dallas, Horton ranks among Big 12 leaders with 112 assists and is already second among Mizzou sophomores all-time with his 4.5 assists per game. One of just six Tigers to dish 100 assists in consecutive seasons, Horton also ranks 10th in the Big 12 in steals (1.7) and fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio in League action.
Horton and the Tigers return to action on Sunday (March 5), when Missouri hosts Nebraska at 1:05 p.m. at Mizzou Arena. The contest also marks Senior Day and will be the final home contest for Jimmy McKinney and Kevin Young.
