LAKE OZARK, Mo. - - The Mizzou Men's Golf team opened the Fall 2005 season by taking the tournament championship at the Missouri Intercollegiate Tournament at the Club at Porto Cima in Lake Ozark, Mo. The Tigers finished 46 shots ahead of second place Lindenwood in the 19-team field.
Juniors John Kelly and Tyler Dunn tied for the individual championship with a three-round total of 211. Kelly defeated Dunn (who was competing as an individual, not as part of the team competition) in a playoff.
Missouri held all of the top four spots as senior Ben Scott and junior Shawn Jasper tied for third to follow Kelly and Dunn. Scott and Jasper each shot 214 for the three rounds.
Senior John Mabry finished in a tie for eighth with a 233 three-round total and freshman Peter Malnati was twelfth with three-straight rounds of 75 for a final total of 225.
"Obviously, it is always good to start the season with a win," Head Coach Mark Leroux said. "This was a good tournament for us and we will look to use the momentum from this win as we continue through the year."
Mizzou will next play in the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions at Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville Tenn. The two-day tournament, hosted by the University of Tennessee, will start on Monday, Sept. 12.
