
Tigers Fall in Extra Innings to Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. - - A walk-off home run by Nebraska's Jesse Boyer in the 11th inning, gave the Huskers the 6-5 win and the series win. Down four runs early in the game, Mizzou battled back to tie the game but lost its fourth extra inning game of the season.
For the first time this weekend, Nebraska took an early lead, scoring runs in each of the first two innings. Two runs crossed the plate in the bottom of the first inning as Alex Gordon doubled to drive in the first run and later scored to give the Huskers a 2-0 lead.
Daniel Bruce led off the second inning with a single and would later score on a single by Jeff Christy.
The first eight Tigers to the plate were retired, five by strikeouts, before sophomore Gary Arndt doubled to the left centerfield gap in the third inning for the first MU hit.
Mizzou ( 32-16, 12-9 Big 12) got on the board with a run in the top half on the fourth. Junior Tyler Williams, who lead off the inning with a walk, scored on a single by junior Derek Chambers. Chambers was 3-for-5 on the day, extend his hitting streak to seven games.
Nebraska (39-10, 14-7) answered with two runs in its half of the fourth inning on a pair of base hits and a walk.
Trailing 5-1 heading to the seventh, Mizzou scored four runs on three hits, two Husker errors and a wild pitch in the inning to tie the game at five. Junior Zane Taylor and sophomores Gary Arndt and Hunter Mense each had singles and scored in the seventh. Mense scored the tying run by singling and advancing to second on a wild pitch. He scored when freshman Jacob Priday reached safely on an error by the NU first baseman.
Boyer's home run in the eleventh was the first homer of his career.
Mizzou returns to Taylor Stadium for its final home series of the season next weekend, taking on Kansas in a three-game set. The first game of the series will start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Game two will get underway at 2 p.m. on Saturday with the final game of the series set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
