
Tigers Fall to Murray State, 6-5

MURRAY, Kent. - - Missouri dropped its second game in two days as Murray State handed the Tigers a 6-5 loss on Monday in Murray, Kent. Mizzou fell behind 6-0 after four innings and attempted a comeback, cutting the MSU lead to one, but could not push the tying run across the plate.
Murray State took the first lead by scoring four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Two of the four runs came on a home run off the bat of the MSU pitcher Tyler Pittman. The four runs in the inning were the first runs given up this season by Tigers' starting pitcher Erik Dessau, making his third start of the year.
The Thoroughbreds added two more runs in the fourth inning as Missouri committed its fourth error in the game leading to the 6-0 run. The Tigers finished the game with a season-high five errors.
The Tigers (6-3) were hitless through the first four innings until a lead off triple by junior Greg O'Neill for the first hit against Pittman. O'Neill would score later in the inning as freshman Gary Arndt grounded out to second allowing O'Neill to put the first Mizzou run on the board.
Missouri's second hit of the game was also a triple, as junior James Boone reached when Murray State's right fielder lost the ball in the sun allowing Boone to advance all the way to third and driving in sophomore Hunter Mense. Boone would score the second run of the inning on a wild pitch by Pittman, cutting the lead to three.
The Tigers pulled within one with two more runs in the eighth inning. With two outs, Boone singled to drive in junior Derek Chambers. Boone would then score on a triple by freshman Jacob Priday. It was the third triple of the game for Mizzou.
Mizzou opens up its home schedule with a three-games series against Eastern Michigan, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Taylor Stadium. The series against EMU starts a 10-game homestand for the Tigers.
