Columbia, Mo. -
The University of Missouri's record-setting senior quarterback Brad Smith and senior offensive lineman Tony Palmer were named 1st-Team All-Big 12, as announced by the Associated Press.
Smith, who now owns 59 different Mizzou, Big 12 and NCAA single-game, single-season and career records, earned 1st-Team league honors for the first time in his memorable career, surpassing his previous high of 3rd-Team (2003 Coaches), to go with honorable mention honors he won in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Smith, the Big 12 Conference's career record holder for total offense (12,656 yards) has 2,022 yards passing and 1,151 yards rushing in 2005. He is the first player in NCAA Division I-A history to achieve the feat of 2,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing twice in his career (he had 2,333 passing and 1,029 rushing in 2002).
Palmer's award marks his highest league honor, after earning 2nd-Team status in 2004 and honorable mention acclaim in 2003. Palmer is the leader of a line that has helped MU rank in the top 35 of the NCAA this season in rushing (18th - 205.45 ypg), total offense (32nd - 423.00 ypg) and scoring (35th - 30.09 ppg).
Five other Mizzou standouts earned a spot on the A.P.'s all-league team, including junior defensive end Brian Smith (Denton, Texas), who was MU's sole representative on the 2nd-Team. Mizzou had four players earn honorable mention accolades, including Marcus King (Sr., DB - Irving, Texas), David Overstreet (Jr., SS - Dallas, Texas), Martin Rucker (So., TE - St. Joseph, Mo.), and Jason Simpson (Sr., FS - The Woodlands, Texas).
