Columbia, Mo. -
Senior offensive lineman Tony Palmer was named 1st-Team All-Big 12, as announced today by the Big 12 Conference office. The team was selected by league coaches.
Nine other Mizzou standouts earned honorable mention accolades, including Joel Clinger (Jr., OL - Warrenton, Mo.), Sean Coffey (Sr., WR - East Cleveland, Ohio), Marcus King (Sr., DB - Irving, Texas), David Overstreet (Jr., SS - Dallas, Texas), Martin Rucker (So., TE - St. Joseph, Mo.), Jason Simpson (Sr., FS - The Woodlands, Texas), Brad Smith (Sr., QB - Youngstown, Ohio), Brian Smith (Jr., DE - Denton, Texas) and Adam Spieker (So., C - Webb City, Mo.).
Palmer's award marks the 9th-consecutive year that at least one Tiger has landed on the coaches' 1st-Team, and it is Palmer's highest league honor, after earning 2nd-Team status in 2004 and honorable mention acclaim in 2003. He is the 6th Tiger offensive lineman to earn coaches' 1st-Team status since the formation of the Big 12 in 1996 - he joins former Mizzou standouts Mike Morris (OG - 1997), Craig Heimburger (OG - 1998), Rob Riti (C - 1998, 1999), Rob Droege (OT - 2002) and A.J. Ricker (C - 2003) with that distinction. Palmer is the leader of a line that has helped MU rank in the top 35 of the NCAA this season in rushing (18th - 205.45 ypg), total offense (32nd - 423.00 ypg) and scoring (35th - 30.09 ppg).
