
Bybee and Grimes Earn Student-Athlete Honors

Columbia, Mo. -Missouri senior Jennifer Bybee (women's track and field) and freshman Kalen Grimes (basketball) were named this week's Lathrop & Gage student-athlete's of the week. Both exceptional student-athletes holds above a 3.0 grade-point average in their respective majors, are strong members of their teams and volunteer time to local foundations.
A native of Springfield, Mo., Bybee is an English and Communications major and holds a 3.90 grade-point average. Throughout her four years as a high jumper on the Missouri women's track and field team, Bybee set a career-best mark of 5-10 ¾ in May 2003 and has qualified for the NCAA Championships on two occasions. This season, the four-time All-Big 12 honoree took a first place finish on Jan. 22, with a jump of 5-6 at the Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State triangular in Manhattan, Kan. Outside of the classroom and away from the track, Bybee is a dedicated volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House.
Freshman forward/center, Grimes has contributed 63 points in 20 games this season. Raised in St. Louis, Grimes managed a 3.30 grade-point average after one semester of class and is undecided on his major. Draining 26 of his 45 field goal attempts this campaign, Grimes is 58 percent from the field and holds 49 rebounds to his name. Grimes is an active member of the surrounding Columbia, Mo., community and gives his time to the local Columbia Boys and Girls Club, Coaches vs. Cancer foundation and serves as a Youth Clinic volunteer.
The men's and women's track and field team will return to action Feb. 4-5, at the Meyo Classic in South Bend, Ind. The Missouri men's basketball team will take on Border Showdown opponent Kansas in Lawrence, Kan., tonight at 6 p.m. (CT).
