Aug. 4, 2005

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri junior-to-be Shawn Jasper (Marthasville, Mo. / Francis Howell HS / Newman Univ.) was one of four golfers to advance out of the St. Louis sectional qualifier for the 2005 U.S. Amateur on Wednesday.

Jasper is the second Tiger to qualify for this year's Amateur, as senior-to-be Chris Mabry (Leawood, Kan. / Bishop Miege HS) was medalist at the Lawrence, Kan., sectional qualifier on July 25. Mabry was one of two golfers to advance out of the qualifier at Alvamar CC, winning the tournament by five strokes.

Jasper tied for second on Wednesday with a two-round score of 143 at Winghaven Country Club, putting him and Mabry into the 312-player field for the 105th Amateur, which will be played August 22-28 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.

Thirty-six holes of stroke-play qualifying on August 22-23 will cut the field down to the 64-player match-play portion of the tournament.
