Columbia, MO - University of Missouri Athletic Director Mike Alden continues to be recognized as one of the top administrators in all of Division I Athletics and his talents were further noted earlier this week. Alden was been named to the NCAA Management Council and will begin a four-year term on the council later this summer.
"This is a great opportunity to join a group of collegiate administrators whose sole purpose is to assist in guiding college athletics to new heights both on and off the field of competition," Alden said. "We have a great responsibility to our student athletes and to everyone involved with the NCAA and I am pleased to have the opportunity to be part of this council."
The Council plays a vital role in Division I legislative issues and oversees cabinets responsible for academic affairs, eligibility, compliance, championships and competition. Alden, who is in his seventh year at Mizzou, will join the 49-member Council which includes athletics administrators and faculty representatives. The Council adopts operating bylaws and rules to govern Division I which are subject to Board of Directors ratification; interprets Division I bylaws, and develops and administers the Division I budget. This is the second-highest ranking committee in the NCAA hierarchy.
"I am very pleased to see Mike Alden continue his national leadership role in intercollegiate athletics with this appointment to the NCAA Management Council," University of Missouri-Columbia Chancellor Dr. Brady Deaton said of Alden's appointment to the council. "He will bring broad and valuable experience to this role that will benefit the NCAA and Mizzou as well. We are gratified to see this recognition of Mike's success in building the Missouri program."
