Tiger Track & Field post-collegian Fiona Asigbee placed second Sunday in the women's pentathlon at the USATF Indoor Combined Event Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C. Her final score of 4,347 topped her previous personal best in the event by nearly 200 points and is the 15th best score recorded in the world for 2005.
Asigbee earned personal bests in four of the five events in the pentathlon starting with a phenomenal run in the 60-meter hurdles, timing in at 8.34, a full two percent improvement over her previous best of 8.54. Asigbee then added an additional inch-and-a-quarter to her indoor high jump personal best, leaping over the 5-11¼ (1.81m) bar to take over second place overall, where she would stay. Asigbee followed with personal bests in the shot put at 41-11¼ (12.78m) and the long jump 19-2¾ (5.86m).
Asigbee, a native of Walford, Iowa, placed 10th at the 2004 USATF Olympic Trials in the heptathlon, and, as a Tiger, was a two-time Big 12 Champion, sweeping the 2003 indoor pentathlon and 2003 outdoor heptathlon conference titles.
Post-collegian Michelle Moran placed fifth in the meet with 4,049 points. Moran also gained a big improvement in the 60-meter hurdles, timing in at 8.66.
