
MU's Starkey to Coach Fed-Cup

Columbia, Mo. - The United States Tennis Association/ Missouri Valley Section (USTA/MV) announced that Missouri Tennis Coach Blake Starkey will coach the Midwest's top ranked Girl's 18 blue-chip youth players at the U.S. Fed-Cup Team Championships later this summer.
Team members will compete in a team format, taking on top-ranked athletes making up other teams from around the country. The weeklong tournament will be held in Danville, Calif., Aug. 3-6. The U.S. Fed-Cup is immediately followed by the U.S. National Hard Court Championships in San Jose, Calif. The United States Tennis Association Fed-Cup Team Championships and National Hardcourt Championships are the crowning tournaments for nation's top prep players.
"Coach (Starkey) has done this before and has done a fabulous job the years we've been lucky enough to get him," Youth Tennis Coordinator Kent Schultz said. "I know the players and parents have always felt fortunate when he's been our coach," said Schultz. Schultz works for the USTA Missouri Valley Section and was the committee chair selecting the coach for the championships.
The Missouri Valley Section represents the states of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and parts of Illinois. The U.S. Fed-Cup Team Championships are held each year and are made up of districts nationwide. The USTA/MVTA sectional office is located in Kansas City, Mo.
