
Three Tigers Named To NCAA Championship Contingent

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Last night the NCAA Track and Field committee announced the field for the 2004 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships to be held Friday and Saturday, March 12-13, in Fayetteville, Ark. Three Tigers-Ashley Patten, Jennifer Bennett, and Conrad Woolsey-were named to the field of 270 men and 270 women.
Sophomore Ashley Patten (Clarkston, Mich.) will be part of a 14 person field in the 800-meter dash, in which, she ranks 10th. Patten won the Big 12 title in the event this season in Lincoln, Neb. Qualifying for the national meet with a time of 2:05.97, Patten became the second-fastest 800-meter runner in Missouri history.
Senior Jennifer Bennett (Ashland, Mo.) will be making her third consecutive NCAA appearance in the women's pole vault event. Bennett is tied for 14th in the seeding of the 17 contender field. Bennett met the mark of 13 feet, 3? inches (4.05m) on her final attempt, also last weekend in Ames, Iowa.
Junior transfer Conrad Woolsey (Excelsior Springs, Mo.) will be part of a field of 14 in the men's shot put event in which he is seeded No. 10. His throw of 62 feet, ? inch (18.90m), occurred at last weekend's Cyclone Last Chance Meet and places him third all-time in Missouri history in the event. Woolsey won the 2001 NCAA Division II Indoor Men's Shot Put title as a member of Northwest Missouri State's track team. This season, Woolsey finished third in the Big 12 Championships.
Competition will begin Friday, March 12. Television coverage can be seen on ESPN2 on Wednesday, March 17, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m., central time.
