
Askren and Booth Earn Student-Athlete Honors

Columbia, Mo. -Missouri sophomores Ben Askren (wrestling) and Abbie Booth (volleyball) were named this week's Lathrop & Gage student athletes of the week. Both student athletes hold above a 3.0 grade-point average, contributed significantly to their respective teams success over the past week and donate their time to the surrounding community throughout the course of the school year.
A native of Hartland, Wis., Askren is a Geography major with a 3.36 grade-point average. Over the weekend, the Missouri wrestling co-captain, and 2004 All-American and Big 12 Champion, took first place at 174 pounds at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. Askren is the only Missouri starter to hold a perfect 2004-05 season record (12-0), recording his first nine wins of the campaign by fall. Askren is a member of the mentor/mentee luncheon group.
Totaling nine starts throughout the 2004-05 season, Booth recorded a career-high 19 digs against Texas A&M in College Station on Oct. 27. The Kansas City, Mo., native averaged 1.99 digs-per-game this year and was named to the Academic All-Big 12 team for her 3.50 grade-point average in Business. Off the court, Booth is a member of the Tiger Express to Academic Success team, conducting tours around MU's sports park for Smithton Middle School students.
The 11th ranked Missouri wrestling team will travel to Columbus, Ohio, for a triangular with Ohio State and Virginia Tech on Saturday, Dec. 18, followed with a dual against Ohio on Dec. 19, in Athens, Ohio. Tiger volleyball wrapped up its successful season on Saturday in Columbia, by making their fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
