STANFORD, Calif. -
For both golfers, it's their best round of the season. Jasper's previous best came two weeks ago in MU's last tournament when he fired a 71 at the Missouri Bluffs Challenge. Mabry's best also came in St. Charles after shooting a 70.
The Tigers shot an aggregate total score of 284 to equal their best opening round of the season. It's also just one stroke off Mizzou's best round posted in the Missouri Bluffs Challenge. MU is nine strokes behind first-place Georgia State, and five strokes back of UNLV and Notre Dame, who are tied for third.
"We had a good mix today. We had two great scores, and we have three guys who aren't very happy and feel the need to step it up tomorrow," Head Coach Mark Leroux said. "The guys thought the Bluffs might be a turning point; they believe in each other and have a lot of confidence right now."
Among MU's other competitors, senior Justin Bliss (Chesterfield, Mo. / Lafayette HS) is in a tie for 42nd after shooting a 73; junior Ben Scott (Lancashire, United Kingdom / St. Theodore's HS) is in a tie for 61st after shooting a 75; and sophomore John Kelly (St. Louis, Mo. / Christian Brothers College HS) is in a tie for 73rd following a 76.
The tournament resumes Saturday before concluding Sunday.
