In the first game of the day at the Gator Invitational the Missouri Tiger softball team took a loss against the South Florida Bulls. The winning play came in the sixth inning on a run by Carmela Liwag giving the Bulls the 3-0 win over the Tigers.
The Tigers entered the game with a 1-1 record after a win yesterday (1-0) over the Appalachian Mountaineers and a loss (5-4) to the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Lady Mocs.
The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when the Bulls earned three runs on an throwing error. Missouri had several hits in the game. A single down the right base line in the second inning from freshman Alli Kennewell, and a hit in the third inning from junior shortstop Heather Kunkel.
The Tigers made a pitching change in the bottom of the sixth inning bringing in freshman pitcher Erica Peterson. In Peterson's previous outing she had three strikeouts and held the Moc's to four scoreless innings. Peterson had one strikeout and two runs in the game.
In the second game of the day the Tiger's faced off against the host school the University of Florida Gators. Florida came into the game with a record of 2-1 after a (4-3) win earlier in the day against Arkansas.
The Gators took the early (1-0) lead on a run by Mylin Prieto in the bottom of the first inning and scored another run in the bottom of the second inning. The Gators scored a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the Gator lead 3-0. The Gators senior pitcher Jenny Gladding pitched a no hitter striking out 12 batters.
Pitching for the Tigers was junior Erin Kalka who had nine strikeouts in the game, two walks, and three runs in the game.
The Tiger's will be back in action for their final game of the Gator Invitational Sunday morning against SEC conference member, Arkansas at 9 a.m.(CST) at Santa Fe Community College.
