Wrapping up the second week of the new year, second-ranked Missouri will compete in a three-way meet against No. 15 Ohio State and host school, University of Tennessee-Chattanooga on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Maclellan Gym. The Tigers will open the day with a dual against UTC at 11 a.m. CT, followed by the UTC/Ohio State match. Missouri will pair with Ohio State in the third and final dual of the day, expected to start around 2:30 p.m. CT.
Entering their matchup with Ohio State, the two schools stand tied in the all-time series, 4-4. Head Coach Brian Smith will lead his 10 starters into a tough competition. The Buckeyes bring a talented squad to the mats, as three wrestlers stand among the top-10 in the nation with Tommy Rowlands (HWT) earning first place honors. The two teams last met at the Virginia Duals in 1998, with OSU taking a 23-12 win over then-head coach Wes Roper's Tigers.
Missouri and UTC will head to the mats for their third pairing. Missouri leads the series with a 2-0 record, earning its last win (40-12) in front of a record-setting 1,268 fans at the Hearnes Center on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003.
"We're looking forward to the upcoming three-way meet," Smith said. "We should match up well in several of our weights, so I'm anxious to see how our team handles the challenges."
All 10 of Missouri's starters are expected to lineup on Saturday, with the probable list as Austin DeVoe (125), Paul Collum (133), J.P. Reese (141), Jeremy Spates (149), Kenny Burleson (157), Tyron Woodley (165), Ben Askren (174), Matt Pell (184), Jeff Foust (197), and Mike Whitehead (HWT).
Following the meet on Saturday, the Tigers will return to Columbia for a week of practice before heading to the National Duals in Cleveland, Ohio. One of the toughest competitions in the nation, Missouri will receive the brackets Monday, Jan. 12, at 10 p.m.
