Columbia, Mo. - On January 9, 2004 history will be made as former Missouri swimmer Kevin DeForrest will become the first male swimmer to be inducted into the University of Missouri Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame and will only be the third swimmer to ever earn Hall of Fame recognition.
DeForrest, a St. Louis, Mo. native, was Missouri's first male swimming All-American after finishing fourth in the 50-yard freestyle and 11th in the 100-yard freestyle at the 1979 NCAA Championships. In the 1979 championships, DeForrest scored all 13 of Missouri's team points giving MU a 20th place finish, the highest in school history for the men's swim team.
During his tenure on the MU swim team, DeForrest was able to capture eight individual Big Eight Conference titles and was a member of six relay teams that also captured Big Eight titles.
When DeForrest graduated, he was the Big Eight record holder in the 50 and 100-yard freestyles and the 400-yard freestyle relay, all of which stood until 1994.
