
Dunne Qualifies For U.S. Nationals At NCAA Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The University of Missouri track and field team competed today in the first day of the NCAA Championships held on the campus of Sacramento State University in Hornet Stadium.
Tiger senior Timothy Dunne (Jerome, Idaho) started the Tigers on a positive note by qualifying in the preliminary round for Thursday's semifinals in the 800-meter run. Dunne's time of 1:47.39 is a career best and ranks him fourth-best all-time in Mizzou history in the event. Dunne finished fourth in his heat, yet finished with the fifth best time of all qualifiers. In addition, Dunne earned himself a spot in the U.S. National Championships next week as he beat the qualifying mark of 1:48.00. Dunne will run in tomorrow's semifinal round at 4:25 p.m. (central time).
Before press time, results were still pending on several events including Russ Bell's showing in the hammer throw qualifying round and the first day of the decathlon featuring Mizzou senior Knut Sommerfeldt and freshman Hans Uldal.
Bell will be competing with fellow teammate senior Christian Cantwell in the shot put qualifying round to be held at 10:30 p.m. (central time).
