
Rachael McGinnis Named All-American

Missouri junior Rachael McGinnis has been named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America Third Team, as announced at the opening ceremonies of the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla. The honor follows her selection to both the All-Big 12 First Team and the All-Midwest Region Second Team.
McGinnis finished the season with a team leading .384 batting average, which was the second best in the Big 12 Conference and the fifth best season average in Mizzou softball history. She also led the team in hits (58), runs scored (36), RBI (36), home runs (10), slugging percentage (.675), and on base percentage (.453). She started every game for MU at third base and finished with a .971 fielding percentage.
She was 11-for-15 in stolen bases last season and had a team-leading 18 walks. She opened the season by recording two hits in each of the Tigers first four games. McGinnis recorded at least one hit in 36 of MU's 51 games and had 18 multi-hit games. She went 4-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI against New Mexico State on Feb. 22. She had three hits against Pittsburg State on March 12 and Southeast Missouri State on April 2.
The Overland Park, Kan. native was also named to the All-Big 12 First Team in 2002 and was a member of the Midwest Region team in 2001 and 2002. She is the leader in career batting average at Missouri with a .360 mark. She is also fourth in career home runs with 19, fourth in RBI with 112 and fifth in hits with 184.
The Tigers completed their season with a 31-20 record, a third place finish in the Big 12 Conference and reached the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 1999.
