The #43 University of Missouri tennis dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to the #52 Purdue Boilermakers Sunday at the Green Tennis Center. The loss was Missouri's first of the spring season. This was the second match of the year to feature ball kids, giving the match a professional feel. It was also the Tigers second match in a week vs. a highly ranked opponent. Purdue took the doubles point with wins at #2 and #3 doubles. The Tigers and Boilermakers then split the six singles matches, giving Purdue the 4-3 win.
"I hate being beaten, but it unfortunately happens sometimes," said MU Coach Blake Starkey. "We fought hard and had plenty of chances. We've just didn't close out today when the opportunities were there, and that'll be the lesson from this one. I have a lot of respect for Matt and Chris, and they have a great raport with their players. Purdue has a great squad made up of very cool kids, and this was a good battle. Hooking up with teams like them clearly helps us (as well as Purdue) become a lot stronger. That's exciting. We'll have a great week of practice and be looking forward to next week."
The Tigers next action will be against Creighton next Friday at 12:00PM in Omaha, Nebraska.
