Series Finale With Texas Tech cancelled

April 6, 2003

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Sunday afternoon's scheduled 1 p.m. Big 12 Conference series finale with Texas Tech has been cancelled due to heavy rain, Head Coach Tim Jamieson announced this morning.

The cancellation is the 10th of the 2003 season for Missouri (23-8, 8-3 Big 12), which is riding winning streaks of 11 games overall - the longest since 1988 - and eight games in conference play (longest since 1996). It also gives Mizzou a two-game series sweep of the Red Raiders (20-13, 4-7), marking the first time that the Tigers have swept three Big 12 opponents in the same season with more than half of the conference slate remaining.

At the moment, the Tigers are four games under the maximum 56 allowed by the NCAA.

Missouri's next scheduled game is ironically a rescheduling of Missouri's last alteration to the schedule. Western Illinois, whose two-game series at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field in early March was postponed because of heavy snow, will travel to Columbia for a single game this Wednesday, April 9, at 6:30 p.m. For ticket information, call 1-800-CAT-PAWS (573-884-PAWS in mid-Missouri).
