COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri men and women's track team had an outstanding day at Day 2 of the Missouri Relays. Nine Tiger track athletes qualified for the NCAA Regionals to be held in late May and Tiger athletes won ten events.
Senior All-American Russ Bell qualified for the regionals in the discus and shot put and won both events and Bell set a Missouri Relays record in the shot put. Bell qualified in the hammer throw last night at day one of the relays. In the high jump sophomore All-American Jesse Sims jumped 7 feet, 1.5 inches to qualify for the regionals and teammate Jason Edmonds also qualified in the event.
On the women's side senior co-captain Fiona Asigbee won the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 13.95 which not only set a Missouri Relays record but also ran an NCAA qualifying mark. Sophomore Jenny Bybee and freshman Alicia Cannady qualified for the regionals in the high jump. Both had leaps of 5 feet, 7 inches. Junior All-American Jennifer Bennett jumped 13 feet, .25 inches in the pole vault setting an NCAA qualifying mark. Junior All-American Janae Strickland was the final Tiger to qualify for the NCAA Regionals when she qualified in the shot put.
The Tigers are in action next week at the Tom Botts Relays at Walton Stadium April 11th and 12th.
