Taylor Tabbed Big 12 Player of the Week

April 1, 2003

DALLAS - Missouri freshman 3B Zane Taylor (Kirksville, Mo.) has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Baseball Player of the Week in voting by a select panel of media covering Big 12 baseball for games played from Mar. 25-31.

Taylor is the first Tiger to be so honored since Mick Weiss and current teammate Lee Laskowski were tabbed in back-to-back weeks in mid-April of last season.

Taylor paced the Tigers to a 4-0 week and second consecutive sweep of a Big 12 opponent (Kansas State) with a .556 average (10-for-18), four runs, a home run, six RBI, 13 total bases, a .722 slugging percentage, and one stolen base in his lone attempt. For the season, Taylor is batting .359 - second on the team among regulars - with a homer and 18 RBI.

His efforts helped Head Coach Tim Jamieson's squad to its sixth straight Big 12 triumph, Mizzou's eighth overall, and to receive votes in both the USA TODAY Sports Weekly/ESPN and NCBWA Top 25/35 national polls.

Nebraska pitchers Zach Kroenke and Aaron Marsden were selected as the league's Pitchers of the Week.

Mizzou is next in action on Wednesday at Saint Louis. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at the Billiken Sports Center on the SLU campus. The Tigers' next home games are set for this Friday through Sunday against Texas Tech. For more information, call 1-800-CAT-PAWS (573-884-PAWS in mid-Missouri).
