Three Tigers Set Provisional Marks at NCAA Qualifier

The University of Missouri track team had an excellent day at the NCAA Qualifier in Ames, Iowa today. Of the fifteen athletes sent to the meet, three set provisional qualifying marks for next week's NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas and Tiger senior Christian Cantwell, who has already automatically qualified for the championships, threw and automatic qualifying mark in the shot put.

Cantwell's throw of 68 feet, 2 inches was shy of his season best throw of 68- 5 but bested his Big 12 Championship throw by nearly two feet. Senior teammate Russ Bell threw a provisional shot put mark of 62 feet, 2 inches, which is a season-best for him. Tiger senior Timothy Dunne jumped 7 feet, ran a 1:49.62 in the 800 meters which is also a provisional qualifying mark.

On the women's side the throwers were the story. Junior Janae Strickland set a provisional mark in the shot put with a throw of 53 feet, 5 inches which is also a school record. Senior co-captain Brooke Ennen also set a school record with a throw of 58 feet, 1.5 inches in the weight throw.

Two Tigers,Christian Cantwell (shot put) and Amanda Bales (mile and 300 meters), have automatically qualified for the championships and six more Tigers may advance on to next week's NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
