Columbia, Mo.-University of Missouri soccer coach Bryan Blitz announced on Friday that Kathy Schmidtke will join the Tiger staff as a graduate assistant coach. This will be Schmidtke's second stint at MU. She was a volunteer assistant on Blitz's staff during the 2000 season.
"We are so excited to have Kathy back as part of Missouri Soccer. We feel lucky to have such a high quality individual on our coaching staff. She has extraordinary drive and enthusiasm, and she will contribute great things to our soccer program."
The Westminster grad served as the head coach at Westminster College during the 2001 season and brought in what were considered to be two of the top recruiting classes in Westminster history. Prior to her first tenure at Mizzou, Schmidtke was the junior varsity soccer coach at Hickman High School in Columbia and was a volunteer coach for the Carrera Soccer Club prior to that.
"This is a great chance to return to a top program and work with a quality group of people." Schmidke said. "I would like to thank Coach Blitz for the opportunity and I look forward to the 2002 season."
She will serve as the director of soccer operations and aid with the day-to-day operations of the soccer team while focusing on player development and community activities.
