The Missouri Tiger wrestling team picked up its eighth straight win over Northern Illinois by defeating the Huskies 28-9 on Sunday. With the win the Tigers improve to 15-2 on the season. The 15 wins are the most for a Tiger wrestling team since the 1980-81 squad finished the season with 16 wins.
Northern Illinois took the early lead in the dual after Bryce Hasemann defeated Tiger redshirt freshman Tyron Woodley 3-1 in the 165-pound match.
At 174 pounds, Missouri senior John Kopnisky recorded a 4-1 decision over Bill Lowney. Kopnisky is now 21-4 on the year and moved into a tie for sixth place on the all-time wins list at Missouri with 101 victories.
Junior Dante Stone dropped the 184-pound match to No. 11 ranked Ben Heizer 10-4.
In the 197-pound bout, MU sophomore Scott Barker recorded his 11th pin of the year by pinning Terry Martin. Barker improved to 19-2 overall on the year and is 15-2 in dual competition.
Junior Kevin Herron defeated Jon Lovrich with a 3-1 decision in the heavyweight match to improve his season record to 17-10 overall, 11-6 in duals.
In the 125-pound match, junior Mark Bader recorded a takedown with less than ten seconds to go in the match to defeat Marlon Felton by a 6-4 decision. Bader is now 15-12 overall on the year.
At 133 pounds, Sam Hiatt of NIU defeated Chris McCormick by a 10-5 score. Tiger sophomore J.P. Reese gave MU another decision victory by defeating NIU's Oliver Vasquez 3-2 in the 141-pound match. Reese is now 18-8 on the year and 12-5 in dual competition.
Sophomore Jeremy Spates recorded a major decision victory over Alex Nelson by a score of 15-4 at 149 pounds. Spates improved to 20-5 overall on the year and 12-2 in duals.
The Huskies forfeited the 157-pound match to MU's Kenny Burleson.
Missouri will be on the road next weekend as it will travel to Ithaca, N.Y. for the Cornell Duals. The Tigers will return to Columbia for their final home dual of the season at 7 p.m. on Feb. 26 against Oklahoma in the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse.
