AMES, Iowa - Junior Christian Cantwell's name will be in two different Iowa State record books after the Eldon, Mo. native won the men's shot put with his toss of 66-4.50 Saturday afternoon.
Cantwell's throw at the ISU Classic was the fifth time in six indoor meets that he hit an automatic qualifying mark. His mark Saturday set both the ISU stadium record and the ISU Classic meet record. Cantwell's teammate junior Russ Bell took second in the event with a provisional qualifying mark of 58-10.25.
A number of Missouri men and women had career bests at the meet. Junior Fiona Asigbee had her fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles, placing eighth in a time of 8.72. Junior Amy Chipman, who turned 21 Saturday, had her best career time in the 3000m, finishing 10th in 9:56.98.
The men's 800m run was a great race for three freshmen, who ran their personal bests Saturday. Rem Moll finished in 1:51.72, Travis Pearman ran the race in 1:52.86 and Neville Miller came across the finish line in 1:54.93.
Another highlight in Saturday's events was the men's high jump. Freshman Jesse Sims placed second with a jump of 6-11. Unattached jumper Jay Meystedt placed third and sophomore Jason Edmonds was fourth.
Missouri returns home for the last time of the indoor season as the Tigers host the Missouri All-Comers meet Feb. 16.
