Oct. 9, 2002

University of Missouri tennis player Urska Juric has moved onto the third round of the Riviera All-American Championships in Los Angeles. Juric won three matches earlier in the week in the pre-qualifying round and won two more matches to advance to the round of 16. Yesterday Juric defeated Darija Klaic from the University of Washington 6-4, 6-7(7-4), 7-5 and the beat Charlotte Vernaz of Pepperdine 6-3, 6-1. Mizzou head tennis coach Blake Starkey said, "Urska is in a different place right now. She is playing as well as she has ever played. She's playing smart, playing aggressive and winning every way possible. I hope she plays this way next semester. She is totally in the zone."

Juric and teammate Katka Sevcikova lost in doubles yesterday 8-3 to the Duke tandem of Julie DeRoo and Amanda Johnson. Juric and Sevicikova will play another doubles match today and Juric will try to extend her singles run through the tournament later today.
