
Men's Swimmers in Action at Arizona State Invite

COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri men's swimming and diving team took an early break from Christmas training in Tempe, Ariz. to compete in the Arizona State Invite on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Arizona State University. The Tigers took on Arizona State and North Carolina State, both of whom are in the middle of their respective Christmas training schedules. The meet was not scored.
Missouri won three events on the day, including the first two races. The team of Matt Ferrarelli, Matt North, Radu Miclaus and Tyler Belanger kicked the meet off by winning the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:36.05. The Tigers then dominated the 500 freestyle. Junior Dane Pedersen was the winner in a time of 4:44.50. Freshmen Blake Davis and Josh Boyd finished second and third respectively.
The Tigers other victory came in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Justin Zeimetz, Tyler Belanger, Shane Whildin and Matt Ferrarelli won the race by close to three seconds, finishing with a time of 1:25.20.
The Tigers claimed several second place finishes, including two by freshman Matt North. North finished a close second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:09.20. He also came in second place in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:57.60.
Missouri returns to action on Friday, January 18, when the Tigers travel to Springfield, Mo. for a dual meet with Southwest Missouri State. The Tigers are currently 2-1 in dual meet competition this season.
