On expectations:
"I don't read that stuff or listen to that stuff. The expectations that were placed on this team were high. Those expectations are gone now. But what we're doing here requires patience. We're ranked in the top 20 and people are walking around like someone just got shot. It's just going to get harder because our conference is so unbelievably good."
On building a program:
"We're doing it with young kids trying to improve. We're trying to grow a young team and it is going to take patience. The older players have to teach the younger players and right now we don't have that many older players. That's why I moved Clarence (Gilbert) to the point, so that he has a podium to be a leader."
On Arthur Johnson:
"I'm very impressed with him and the team is starting to get used to A.J. He's going to be seeing some double teams and he's going to have to be able to handle it. He's become more confident and taking pride in the little things that will make things easier for him."
On Justin Gage:
"He brings competitiveness. He's a football player, so that is his identity. He's not worried about his shot or getting his touches. He just tries to help his team, whether it's by setting a screen or getting a rebound or whatever it takes. That also helps Travon (Bryant) learn and get better, and Najeeb (Echols) also."
On the team's identity:
"Our identity has to be one of defense. That's hard for some guys on this team that are shooters. But the sooner this group identifies themselves that way, the growth will come and the confidence will come."
On guarding Texas A&M's Bernard King:
"It involves decisions. You must play team defense. You can throw multiple defenses at him, but your need help. You have to pull together and get help from your friends to stop him. You can't do it alone."
