CURACAO - Morgan LeCluyse's seventh-inning single drove in junior Kristen Burke as the Tigers recorded a 1-0 win over the Netherlands Antilles National Team Saturday. The victory allowed the Tigers to even the four-game series with one win each.
Mizzou used excellent defense and outstanding pitching to record the victory. Freshman Erin Kalka struck out 11 batters and allowed only five hits in seven innings. Kalka has been masterful during the trip as she has not allowed a run, struck out 15 batters and allowed only seven hits during 10 innings of work.
"Erin pitched a heck of a ballgame," said MU head coach Jay Miller. "Our entire defensive effort was outstanding and Morgan definitely came through in the clutch."
The win capped a great day for the Tigers. Earlier in the morning, Mizzou hosted a clinic for Curacao's children. Approximately 50 to 75 youth participated in the instructional clinic. The Tigers will face the Netherlands Antilles National Team again Sunday.
