Tiger Wrestling Seeded No. 1 at Virginia Duals

Seeding for the 2002 Virginia Duals was announced on Thursday with Missouri as the top seed in the 16-team field. The Tigers will take on the University of Virginia in the first round on Friday at 8:00 a.m. (CST). If they defeat Virginia they will face the winner of Virginia Tech and North Carolina in the quarterfinals.
Missouri is 6-0 on the year and ranked No. 9 in the latest Intermat poll. Six MU wrestlers are ranked in the top 20 of their weight classes. The 6-0 record for the Tigers is the best record MU has had to start a season since the 1983-84 team began 7-0. The No. 9 ranking is the highest ranking the Mizzou has ever held.
Sophomore Scott Barker is ranked No. 5 in the 197-pound weight class. Barker is 10-0 overall on the year and 6-0 in duals. He has recorded seven pins in his last eight matches including a :21 pin over Greg Gill of Old Dominion on Wednesday.
Redshirt freshman Tyron Woodley is 11-3 on the year and 5-1 in duals. He is ranked No. 8 in the 165-pound weight class. Sophomore Jeremy Spates is the ninth ranked 149-pound wrestler and enters the Virginia Duals with a team leading 12-2 record, 5-1 in duals.
Senior John Kopnisky is 11-3 on the year and is ranked No. 10 in the 174-pound weight class. Sophomore J.P. Reese moved up to No. 13 in the 141-pound class. Reese is 11-4 overall with a dual record of 6-3. He is second on the team in pins with six.
Junior Kevin Herron is the No. 16 ranked heavyweight and is coming off a win at Old Dominion where he pinned Derrell Lorthridge in only :18.
The semifinals and finals of the Virginia Duals will be on Saturday. Following this weekend, the Tigers will travel to Wyoming on Jan. 18 before returning to Columbia to face No. 2 ranked Oklahoma State on Jan. 25.
