COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri infielder Jody Roughton was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 24th round of Major League Baseball's 2002 First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday. He was the 710th overall pick.

Roughton, a junior from Carthage, Mo., led Missouri with 60 runs batted in - the most by a MU player since the 1998 season. While splitting time between shortstop and third base, Roughton hit .349 with a team-high 18 doubles and eight home runs.

Roughton, who was named an honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference selection by the league's coaches, is MU's first selection in the 2002 draft.

Drew Endicott was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 41st round as the 1,218th pick. Endicott, a junior right-hander from Carthage, Mo., had a 3-1 record for the 2002 Tigers. He appeared in 19 games, starting six, and had 32 strikeouts. In 2001, Endicott led the Tigers with 62 strikeouts and three complete games.

Matt Hobbs was selected in the 50th round by the Royals. Hobbs, a senior left-hander from Alta Loma, Calif., was taken with the 1,463rd pick. He posted a 2-3 record and struck out 33 batters in 29.1 innings of work in 2002.

In 2001, Hobbs led the Tigers with an 8-5 record. He started 14 games and had one complete game shutout. In 82 innings of work, Hobbs struck out 55 batters. He was a 30th-round pick of the San Diego Padres in the 2001 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
