Coaching Change Made in Softball

May 6, 2002

Columbia, Mo. - University of Missouri Head Softball Coach Jay Miller will not be retained next season, and the search for his replacement will begin immediately, as announced today by the Department of Athletics.

Miller, who served as MU's coach for the past 15 seasons (1988-2002), ends his Mizzou career with a record of 556-309. His 2002 squad recently ended a 29-33 season that saw them finish 9th in the Big 12 Conference, going 4-14 in league play.

"Despite the fact that we're moving in a different direction, we're very grateful to Jay for his contributions," said Director of Athletics Mike Alden. "He elevated the overall standing of the softball program in his time here, and there's no question that Jay gave his all to the University. But there's also no question that we're expected to be more competitive in the sport of softball, particularly given the resources recently invested in the program," he said.
