Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri and Michigan State University have agreed to reschedule their postponed football game of Sept. 15th to Dec. 1st in East Lansing, Mich. Kickoff time is set for Noon (central).
The revamping of the schedule was necessary after last week's terrorist attack on the United States forced the cancellation of all Division I-A football games on Sept. 15th. The Dec. 1 date currently conflicts with the playing of the Big 12 Championship game in Dallas, Texas, on the same day. If the Tigers qualified for the league title game, the game against Michigan State would not be played.
While details are still pending at other schools, Missouri's game will ultimately be one of many games around the nation rescheduled for that day.
MU Director of Athletics Mike Alden examined several scenarios to find a suitable day to make up the lost game, and no solution was easy. "In order for us to maintain the integrity of our schedule, this was the only day that worked for everyone involved," said Alden. "December first is the only available date that would allow us to play 11 games, including one that we're contractually bound to honor in East Lansing, Mich.," he said.
A couple of the other scenarios Alden examined included:
?Missouri at Michigan State on Nov. 17th - This would have required Michigan State to move its Nov. 17th game at Purdue to Dec. 1st, in addition to MU and Kansas State moving their Nov. 17th game in Manhattan, Kan. to Nov. 24th. This scenario proved unworkable, however, as Purdue is scheduled to play Notre Dame on Dec. 1st, in a makeup game from Sept. 15th.
?Missouri at Michigan State on Nov. 24th - This would have required Michigan State to move its Nov. 24th home game against Penn State to Dec. 1st. This scenario wasn't feasible, however, as Penn State and Virginia have rescheduled their Sept. 13th game to Dec. 1st, as well.
