
Men's Golf Finishes 2nd at Fall Season Opener

Lincoln, Neb. - The University of Missouri men's golf team got its 2001 fall season off to an outstanding start as they finished 2nd at the Husker Invitational, which wrapped up with 18 holes of play Tuesday morning in Lincoln, Neb.
The Tigers finished just four strokes behind Lamar, which won the tournament with a three-round team score of 873. MU finished with a team score of 877, and just missed winning its first team title since claiming the Kansas Invitational in the fall of 1999.
Individually, sophomore Brandon Knaub finished in 2nd place, which represents a career best finish. Knaub shot rounds of 73-72-71 for a three-round total of 216, and missed out on claiming his first collegiate title by just one stroke. Shawn Stefani of Lamar won the tournament with a total of 215.
Junior Chris Happ shot rounds of 73-72-72 for a 217 total, and finished tied for 3rd place, just one stroke behind Knaub. It marked the second career top-10 finish for Happ, his first since the spring of 1999.
Two-time Missouri Amateur Champion Mark McBride shot rounds of 73-73-75 for a total of 221, which left him in 12th place. Other Tiger competitors included senior Neal Stafford and freshman Ben Scott. Stafford tied for 17th overall with a total of 223 (75-75-73), while Scott tied for 36th with a total of 231 (77-75-79).
Head Coach Tim Robyn's Tigers next play Sept. 17-18 in Minneapolis, Minn. at the PSI NET Intercollegiate.
