Missouri Track And Field Sign Eight During Spring Signing Period

COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Missouri track and field head coach Rick McGuire announced the signing of eight high school seniors to grant-in-aid for the 2001-2002 season.
"We are pleased with our spring signing class," said McGuire. "This class continues to reflect the tradition of athletes that we are bringing to Missouri."
In only her second year of track, Amanda Bales of Bettendorf, Iowa (Pleasant Valley HS) is a two-time Drake Relays Champion and is the reigning Iowa State Champion in the 800m. She has a personal best time of 2:12.26.
"We are excited with the signings of both Amanda Bales and Serena Ramsey. They are both good athletes and more importantly they are great people," said MU assistant coach Rebecca Wilmes.
Miles Brown comes to Mizzou from Springfield, Mo. (Glendale HS). He placed fourth in the 3200m at the 2000 Missouri State Championships and 11th at the cross country championships. He has career-bests of 4:27 in the 1600m and 9:27 in the 3200m.
Josh Davis hails from Liberty, Mo. (Liberty HS) and comes to MU as the 2000 state runner-up in cross country. He has personal-bests of 4:18.60 in the 1600m and 9:20 in the 3200m.
"Josh Davis will make an immediate impact to our cross country team," said cross country head coach Jared Wilmes.
Multi-event specialist Brandon Goebbert joins the Tigers from Hinsdale, Illinois (Hinsdale Central HS). His personal records are 38.6 in the 300m hurdles, 14.6 in the 110 hurdles and he is a 6000 point scorer in the decathlon.
Oklahoma 5A State Champion Remington Moll prepped at Tulsa's Jenks High School. He took state in cross country in 2000 and also in 2001 in the 800m and 1600m. He has career-best of 1:52.87 in the 800m and 4:24 in the 1600m.
Travis Pearman, a native of Stroud, Okla. (Stroud HS), will run middle distance for the Tigers next season. He is the 2A Oklahoma State Champion and has a career-best time of 1:53.44 in the 800m.
"Remington Moll and Travis Pearman are great additions and will add depth to our middle distance and cross country teams," said Jared Wilmes.
Serena Ramsey comes south from Waukesha, Wis. (Waukesha West) to the University of Missouri to run distance. She was the runner-up at the Wisconsin State Championships in cross country and track. Her best times are 2:17 in the 800m, 5:00 in the 1600m and 11:16 in the 3200.
Taby Robbins comes to MU from Concordia, Kan., and will compete in the throws. She is a two-sport star, who was a member of two state champion volleyball teams at Concordia HS. She was also the 2000 Kansas State Champion in the shot put. Robbins has a career-high of 45-11 in the shot put.
"We have signed some of the top athletes from the Midwest, especially in the distance, jumps and throws. Its also exciting to sign three top throwing prospects among women. We hope some day to get the women's throws to have the same success that the men's throwers have achieved. These kids are great people as well as great students and we look forward to working with them next year," McGuire added.
