
Tigers Set To Compete At Drake Relays

COLUMBIA, Mo - The University of Missouri track and field team takes to the road this weekend as the Tigers travel to Des Moines, Iowa, to compete in the 92nd Drake Relays.
Two Tigers Add Their Names To National Qualifier List
Seniors Eli Sommerfeldt and Jay Meystedt recorded provisional qualifying marks last weekend at the Mount San Antonio College Relays in Walnut, Calif. Meystedt finished second and posted a 7-1.75 in the high jump, while Sommerfeldt scored 5,223 points en route to the top spot in the heptathlon.
Bell Breaks Record In The Hammer
Sophomore Russ Bell broke his own MU school record at Mount SAC when he ripped a 202-8 in the hammer. His mark is a provisional standard and ranks him 19th nationally.
Grewe and Whitehead Pick Up Wins At Kansas Relays
Juniors Carla Grewe and Heather Whitehead posted wins in different flights of the discus at the 74th Annual Kansas Relays Apr. 19-20. Grewe recorded a 143-0 to win her flight and Whitehead posted a 132-11 in her flight. Freshman Janae Strickland also found the victory stand at KU, taking the shot put (42-9).
Eli and Knut

Senior Eli Sommerfeldt joins her brother Knut on the national qualifier list in the combined events. Knut qualified in the decathlon on Mar. 16 Texas A&M Relays. He also holds the school record in the decathlon with 7,367 points. Eli won the heptathlon at Mount SAC last weekend with 5,223 points.
Missouri Women Ranked 24th Nationally
The MU women are ranked 24th in this week's Trackwire.com national poll. The Tigers received 12 votes and are in a three-way tie with Washington State and Florida.
Coach's Corner
MU Head Coach Rick McGuire (St. Lawrence University, 1969) is in his 18th year coaching the Tigers. He led the 2001 women's indoor distance medley team to the national championship.The 2000 Big 12 Conference Indoor Coach of the Year, McGuire has guided 27 Missouri tracksters to 73 All-American honors. He has been inducted into the Missouri Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Drake Relays Hall of Fame and has been a member of the 1992 and 1996 Olympic staffs.
McGuire is joined on the sidelines this season by assistant coaches Brett Halter (8th year), Jared Wilmes (1st year), Rebecca Wilmes (2nd year), Matt Candrl (1st year) and Chad Shade (1st year).
