COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri women's tennis team was defeated by Colorado 4-3 Saturday at the MU Outdoor Complex. The loss drops the Tigers to 2-5 in Big 12 Conference play and 9-5 overall.
"This was as tough of a loss as I have ever been associated with," said MU head coach Blake Starkey. "It could have gone either way and it unfortunately went theirs. We put ourselves in a position to win, but let it get away from us. In singles, a couple of our players have been building leads, but aren't closing out sets when they should. We are suffering as a team as a result, and we need to do better. I give Colorado a lot of credit. Like us, they have a bunch of clean-cut, quality kids. They found ways to win this today."
Mizzou jumped out to an early lead when they won two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Mizzou's top doubles team of Jessica Ferguson and Urska Juric picked up their fifth conference win. In singles play, Kristina Olshanskaya and Cassie Drake were both victorious for the Tigers.
The Tigers next return to action next Saturday when they play Washington University in Columbia.
