COLUMBIA, Mo.- Senior Missouri diver KRISTY WANNER made a bit of history today as she was named the Big 12 Diver of the Month by the coaches of the Big 12 Conference. Wanner is the first Missouri diver, male or female, to receive such an honor since the inception of the Big 12.
Wanner has flourished under new MU Diving Coach GREG TRIEFENBACH. In Missouri's last five dual meets, she won nine of her 10 events, including eight in a row before she finished in second place at Evansville on the one-meter springboard to teammate KELLY POZZOLI.
Earlier this season, Wanner qualified for the NCAA Zone Meet in the Tigers first meet of the season against Arkansas. The Zone Meet, which will take place in Austin, Texas beginning March 8, is a qualifying meet for the NCAA Championships. This is the second straight season that Wanner has qualified for the Zone Meet.
Speaking of Austin, Texas, Wanner arrived in Austin last night in preparation for the Women's Big 12 Championships that begin this Thursday. Last year Wanner reached the finals in both the one-meter and three-meter springboard events, finishing in the top eight on both boards.
