Missouri went almost 10 minutes in the game without scoring a field goal. The Tigers took a 20-18 lead with 6:20 to play in the first half when Amy Loftus scored on a layup after snaring an offensive rebound. Wannette Smith broke the scoring drought with a layup with 16:57 remaining to make it SMS 37, MU 32. The Tigers did score 10 points from the free-throw line during that time.
Lauren Podratz's first collegiate basket was a big one. Podratz, a freshman from Maple Grove, Minn., sank a 3-point field goal with 11 minutes and seven seconds remaining to cut into the SMS lead, 46-41.
There were nine lead changes in the first half and four more in the second half.
The Tigers took advantage of second-chance points, outscoring SMS, 8-2.
Kerensa Barr set career-high marks in points (24) and rebounds (10) to record her first career double-double. Barr snared nine rebounds against UMKC to open the season to tie her performance against Baylor last season. The 24 points topped her previous total of 17 against Nebraska (2/13/01). Her perfect (10-of-10) performance from the free-throw line also gave her a career-best mark. Barr leads the Tigers in points (39), rebounds (19), assists (6, tied with Natalie Bright) and steals (6, tied with Tracy Lozier and Evan Unrau).
Evan Unrau and Tracy Lozier each tied their career-high marks of three steals against SMS. The two have had back-to-back games with three steals.
