After all-star performances by goalkeeper Megan Duncan and defender Dyana Russell in two games of the Big 12 Tournament, both athletes were named members of the Big 12 all-tournament team.
In the first game of the league championship, Missouri successfully shutout Kansas for a 1-0 win in double-overtime. The Tigers battled the Jayhawks through 111 minutes of play. Duncan proved herself by shutting out the Jayhawks with six saves to pick up her fifth shutout of the season.
Defender, Dyana Russell fiercely stopped Hilla Rantala, Natalie Moogveld, and Monica Brothers, Kansas' top scorers. Combined, these leading players managed only two shots on goal during the extended game.
In an intense second game against No. 7 ranked Texas, both Duncan and Russell proved to be top Big 12 players. Despite losing the match 1-0 after a quadruple-overtime decision, the Tigers exhibited their strength and skill against one of the nations' best. Duncan played 147 scoreless minutes recording 12 saves before giving up a goal on an indirect kick.
Russell showed once again her impressive defensive work by stopping Texas's Kati McBain, Kylee Wosnuk, Kelly McDonald and Kelly Wilson. She anchored a Missouri defensive squad that kept the Longhorns to just 13 shots on goal in the elongated game. Texas attempted 40 shot on goal in the two and a half hours of play, but was kept to shooting just 32 percent on goal.
