Columbia, Mo.-After taking two devastating losses at the hands of the Baylor Golden Bears last season, the Missouri Tigers proved they weren't going to take any more abuse. Mizzou rolled Baylor in a 5-2 contest to pick up the highest winning margin the program has seen against the Bears. The victory also edges Baylor's control of the series to 5-3.
Missouri came out strong in the match, dominating from the kickoff. The MU defensive line played extremely shallow spending little time in the backfield as Missouri pushed forward on the offense.
The Tigers put in two goals in the first period to leave the half with a 2-0 advantage. Adrienne Davis put in Mizzou's first goal with a rocket shot taken from a pass by defender Carrie Crossett. Senior Steph Brennan doubled up with freshman Kristen Heil to score MU's second goal. Heil skillfully lanced a back pass from the endline and Brennan tapped the ball into the net.
Missouri came out with the same intensity during the second period. The Tigers continued to impress with fluid ball movement and conscious passing. The skillful work enabled Missouri to knock in three more goals before the buzzer.
Midfielder Karen Bauer scored her fourth goal of the season just seven minutes into the second half. Davis lobbed a pass over the Baylor defensive line where Bauer capitalized. Davis turned around to score her second goal of the evening just six minutes later. Brennan passed a long ball up top to Bauer, who flicked the ball inside where Davis launched a clean shot.
Freshman Lacy Moore rounded out the Missouri barrage with an amazing header. Forward Melissa Peabody crossed a long ball from the right corner of the field and Moore used her 5-8-height advantage to knock the ball over the Baylor keeper.
Despite the 5-0 deficit, Baylor refused to be shutout in the game. The Golden Bears posted two goals late in the second period. Kristin Ruef provided two assists enabling Ginny Rosario-Tull and Emily Fukuchi to score points for Baylor.
The victory brings Missouri to 10-6 on the year with a 5-4 Big 12 Conference record. The Tigers pull ahead of Baylor in the rankings as the Bears fall to 8-7 and 4-5 in league play. Overall, Mizzou outshot Baylor 24-to-9, including a 14-to-6 shot on goal differential.
Goalkeeper Megan Duncan earns the win for Missouri playing scoreless 75:12 minutes in the net. She made three saves in the game. Back-up keeper Stephanie Krawczyk played the remaining 14:48 minutes allowing two goals and making one save.
