Wrestlers down Eastern Illinois Panthers 28-12

Charleston, Ill. - The University of Missouri wrestling team picked up another win Sunday, traveling to Charleston, Ill., to take on Eastern Illinois University. The Tigers bested the Panthers 28-12.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead, winning the first five matches of the afternoon. The first match at heavyweight saw MU's Scott Barker defeat B.J. Bertelsman 6-0.
At the top of the lineup, 125-pound freshman Justin Spates pinned Breandan Holmes in 2:26.
At 133, Jesse West bested Mike Stanley 8-6.
The next two matches provided two technical falls for Missouri as J.P. Reese defeated Panther junior Shawn Slenczka 17-1 and Kenny Burleson defeated Joe Gassen 23-7.
At 157, junior Jesse Jordan was edged out 4-3 by Frank DeFilippis.
Mark Vollmar was outscored 8-3 by Panther Mike Kelly at 165.
No. 11 John Kopnisky picked up yet another win for the Tigers, defeating Louis Taylor 10-3. Kopnisky is now 26-2 on the year, and is trying to improve on a 10-match win streak.
At 184, Missouri was open.
Finally at 197, Tiger sophomore Dante Stone defeated Joe Gleissner 7-2.
The win in Charleston brings the Tigers to 6-8-1 on the year. Next Sunday the Tigers travel to Norman, Okla., to take on the seventh-ranked Oklahoma Sooners at 2 p.m.
