COLUMBIA, Mo.- On a night where the Missouri women's swimmers seemed to be on, the Iowa Hawkeyes were that much faster. The Tigers ran into a red-hot Iowa team in Iowa City, Iowa as the Hawkeyes defeated Missouri by a score of 187-112. The Tigers are now 5-3 in dual meet action this season. Missouri will bus to Lincoln, Neb. and meet up with the men's team for a 2:00 p.m. dual with the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the loss, it was a fast night for Missouri. Freshman SARAH LO enjoyed the best night of her career by turning in the second-fastest times in school history in both the 100 and 200 backstroke events. Lo won the 100 backstroke in a personal-best time of 56.55. She finished second in the 200 backstroke to Iowa's Loredana Zisu, who turned in an extremely fast time of 2:01.72. Lo's time of 2:03.69 is the second fastest time in MU history.
"Sarah was definitely our swimmer of the night," Head Coach BRIAN HOFFER said. "I haven't seen a 2:01 at this time of year in the 200 backstroke in a long time, so I will take Sarah's time in the 200. That was awesome."
Missouri diver KRISTY WANNER kept her winning ways going in the diving events. Wanner, who swept the one and three-meter boards last week in duals against Iowa State and Southwest Missouri State, made it six in-a-row by winning both boards again on Friday night. Wanner dominated the one-meter event with a score of 281.40.
The Tigers' KATY CHANDLER also stood out, posting season-best times in the 200 freestyle (1:52.27) and the 500 freestyle (5:00.26).
"I am really proud of Katy," Hoffer said. "We've been waiting for that 1:52 in the 200 free. That should give her a lot of confidence going into conference in a couple of weeks."
Hoffer said he is disappointed in the final score, but proud of the team.
"I am extremely pleased with the way we swam tonight," Hoffer said. "It doesn't look good on paper, but everything we had tonight, Iowa just had that much more. You have to give them credit. It will be interesting to see what Iowa does at the Big Ten meet in a couple of weeks."
