Tiger Wrestlers Win Two in First Day of Dual Tournament

Hampton, Va. - The University of Missouri wrestling team won two duals today at the Virginia Dual Tournament held in Hampton, Va.
The Tigers first edged out Cal State-Bakersfield 19-18, then went on to beat Kent State in the quarterfinals by a score of 18-15. The two wins bring the grapplers to 3-6 on the year.
Winning two matches were Jesse West (Jr., 133 lbs.), J.P. Reese (redshirt Fr., 141 lbs.), Kenny Burleson (redshirt Fr., 149 lbs.), and No. 8 John Kopnisky (Jr., 174 lbs.).
Picking up one win today were Jesse Jordan (Jr., 157 lbs.), Ry Stone (Jr., 197 lbs.), and Scott Barker (Fr., HWT).
No. 11 Justin Spates (Fr., 125 lbs.) lost his two matches, as did Mark Vollmar (So., 165 lbs) and Rob Stolin (So., 184 lbs.).
Saturday the Tigers will take on Central Michigan at 2 p.m. in the semi-finals of the dual tournament. If they win, they will compete in the finals at 8 p.m. against either Indiana, who beat the Tigers on Dec. 8, or No. 17 Lock Haven.
