Tigers in the Rankings
Missouri jumps into the SoccerBuzz Central Region rankings in the #9 spot after defeating Memphis (3-2) and North Texas (1-0) in its opening weekend. The Tigers were projected to finish fourth in the Big 12 Conference Preseason Coaches Poll but were unranked by SoccerBuzz during the preseason.
Powerhouse Probst
Missouri fans have long known midfielder Suzy Probst to be one of the best defensive players in the Big 12 Conference, but in MU's season opener, the junior showed off her dynamic offensive flavor. Probst scored two of Missouri's three goals against Memphis to lead the Tigers to a 3-2 victory.
The midfielder scored the first goal of the game 20 minutes into the first period. Freshman Kristen Heil sailed a cross inside to forward Adriene Davis who was unable to take a solid shot. Davis made a tight ground pass to Probst in the box for the score. For her second play, Probst picked up a ball that ricocheted off a Memphis defender for an unassisted point.
Probst leads the team with two goals and four points on the season. She has taken six total shots.
Dynamite Davis
Sophomore Adriene Davis jumped into the 2001 season picking up right where she left off last year. In just two games the forward has already scored four points from one goal and two assists. Davis dished out two assists to help the Tigers to a 3-2 victory over Memphis. On Sunday, she led Missouri's offensive efforts taking 11 shots, including six shots on goal before nailing the game-winner for MU.
Persistence proved key for Davis as she scored the game's only goal on a corner kick by defender Kristin Gibbons. The ball was deflected out of the box by a North Texas defender where Davis was able to collect and score.
In the Net
Megan Duncan and Stephanie Krawczyk once again prove to be a cunning pair in the Missouri backfield. Each goalkeeper has played valuable minutes for the Tigers in the net. Krawczyk opened the season for MU against Memphis. She allowed two goals, made three saves and helped the Tigers to a 3-2 victory.
Duncan earned her first shutout of the season in Missouri's 1-0 triumph over North Texas. She was only forced to make one save in the game.
Scouting Indiana State
The Sycamores are 0-2 entering the third game of the season. Indiana State dropped a 3-0 loss to DePaul in its season opener and fell 2-1 to Valparaiso on Sun., Sept. 2.
Indiana State finished the 2000 season with a 3-16 record under first-year Head Coach Vernon Croft. The Sycamores went 1-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference to finish eighth in league standings. ISU returns 10 starters and 14 letterwinners to the 2001 squad.
On the other side of the fence ...
Indiana State goalkeeper Carey Patton will have a nostalgic view of Walton Stadium tonight. The Sycamore's starting keeper spent her first year of college ball in Mizzou's black and gold. As a freshman last season, Patton played in just two games posting a 1.58 goals against average. As a Sycamore this season, the goalkeeper has already made an impact. She recorded eight saves in ISU's season opener against DePaul and stopped seven shots against Valparaiso.
